BBC2: Surgeons At The Edge of Life Season 2

“Pushing the Boundaries” May 2019

Tim and Sat were fortunate enough to be approached to feature in the second series of Surgeons at the Edge of Life commissioned by the BBC.

A patient presented with a highly unusual disease process requiring removal of most of her upper jaw. Tim and Sat used microvascular surgical techniques to reconstruct her upper jaw. This was a particularly challenging case and the first time microvasular surgery had been described in reconstructing a patient with this aggressive disease.

BBC2: Surgeons At The Edge of Life Season 1

“The Longest Day” January 2018

Tim and Sat were fortunate to feature in the first series of Surgeons at The Edge of Life, a documentary series commissioned by the BBC.

Many of the operations conducted by Tim, Sat and their colleagues Prav Praveen and Matt Idle at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are particularly complex taking 8 to 12 hours or more.

This episode highlighted the difficulties of long operating, following a patient who needs her upper jaw and eye removing followed by reconstruction with bone and muscle from her hip.

The series won a Welsh BAFTA for best Factual Series in 2018
