Mr. Tim Martin graduated from Birmingham Dental School in 1988. At Dental School he won several prizes, including prizes in Prosthetics, Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology.
After working as a Senior House Officer in Maxillofacial Surgery in Staffordshire he started Medical School at the University of Birmingham in 1991. He was awarded an MSc in Immunology in 1993, having investigated the effect of Tacrolimus on neutrophil function. Whilst at medical school in Birmingham he also achieved his Fellowship in Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons (FDSRCS). He graduated from medical school in 1996.
He completed his basic surgical training including experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Trauma and Orthopaedics. He achieved the Fellowship for Surgeons in General of The Royal College of Surgeons in 1999.
He was appointed to the West Midlands Maxillofacial training programme in 1999 and achieved his Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2003.
He was appointed as an Oral and Maxillofacial /Head and Neck Reconstructive Surgeon at the University Hospital of Birmingham in 2004. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Birmingham. He is currently the Lead Cancer Clinician at University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust.
He is actively involved in teaching dental and medical students, general medical and dental practitioners as well as trainees in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a course instructor for Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS), Trauma skills and Dentist on the Ward courses. He also lectures on the Birmingham Head and Neck course and the Coventry Head and Neck course.
His NHS practice is based at the University Hospital Birmingham (Queen Elizabeth and Selly Oak Hospitals) where he operates on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. His outpatient cancer clinic is on a Wednesday afternoon. He has a NHS clinic at Sandwell Hospital on a Thursday morning.
His private clinic is based at the Priory (BMI) Hospital in Edgbaston.
He carries out most aspects of general Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery but his sub-specialist interest is Head and Neck Cancer and Reconstruction / Salivary Gland disease
He is registered with both the General Medical and Dental Councils. He is a Fellow of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) and is a member of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (BAHNO).
He is married with three children and his interests are computers and photography. He is a certified SCUBA diver.
